Rules and Regulation on English Language Placement Test

  1. The ELPT is usually administrated one week before the semester begins.
  2. Students who arrive or plan to arrive after the date of the ELPT will not be entertained.
  3. International students who fail the ELPT must enroll in the Intensive English Course immediately after the ELPT result has been released. Failing to abide by this rule will result in the termination of their studies. A pass grade in the ELPT and Intensive English Course for International Students is a requirement for graduation.
  4. International students must show the following documents before they are allowed to sit for ELPT:
    1. Proof of registration by showing the original letter of offer which is stamped REGISTERED by the respective College; and
    2. International passport or smart card as identification.

The ELPT is exempted for the following candidates:

  1. UUM graduates who want to pursue their studies in UUM;
  2. Candidates who have been terminated from UUM but later reapply to pursue their postgraduate studies and have already obtained either a pass grade in the ELPT or the Intensive English Course for International Students. The results are valid for two (2) years;
  3. Candidates who are pursuing their postgraduate studies by research (Master’s or PhD) and are writing their thesis in the Malay language. However, for these candidates, they are required to declare that they will be writing their thesis in the Malay language by filling in the declaration form; and
  4. Candidates who have English Language qualification which is deemed equivalent to the IETS/ TOEFL qualification.
