  • SPECIFIC ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

    Malaysian applicants must posses the following:

    i) A bachelor’s degree with honours in Linguistics, English Language, Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL/TESOL) or Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) from any Institutions of Higher Learning recognised by the University Senate; or

    ii) A bachelor’s degree with honours from any Institutions of Higher Learning recognised by the University Senate and must have at least three (3) years teaching experience in English language course or have a certificate/diploma in Linguistics, English Language, Teaching English as a Second Language
    (TESL/TESOL) or Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).

    International applicants must posses the following:

    i) A bachelor’s degree with honours in Linguistics, English Language, Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL/TESOL) Or Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) from any Institutions of Higher Learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of at least 2.75; and

    ii) Fulfill the English language requirements.

  • PROGRAMME STRUCTURE- (A) Coursework

    In order to be conferred the Master in Applied Linguistics by coursework, students have to complete at least 40 credit hours with a CGPA of at least 3.00. The programme structure is as follows:

    In order to be conferred the Master in Applied Linguistics by coursework and dissertation; students must complete at least 19 credit hours of coursework and 21 credit hours of dissertation. The programme structure is as follows:

      Present and defend the proposed research/dissertation to a committee;

    1. Attend a viva session to defend the dissertation; and
    2. Submit a dissertation of at least 20 000 words.
  • PROGRAMME STRUCTURE- (C) Research

    Details

    REQUIREMENTS

    Students are required to:
    • Present and defend the proposed research to a committee;
    • Present progress reports of research work at colloquiums arranged by the Graduate School or College;
    •  Attend a viva session to defend the thesis; and
    • Submit a final thesis.
    Students without sufficient research skills and knowledge are required to attend and pass the following courses with at least a B grade before being allowed to defend their proposal (i.e. within the first two semesters of their enrolment):
    •  SZRZ6014 Research Methodology;
    • SCLE6014 Academic Writing; and/or
    •  Any other course as determined by the supervisor or Academic Committee.
