  • The aim of this programme is to produce graduates with the advanced knowledge, principles and skills in term of theoretical and practical foundation for designing, implementing and managing information technology solutions and resources and also recognizing the impact of technology on individuals, organization and society.

    At the end of this programme, students are expected to:

    1) Elaborate the advanced concept of Information Technology in accordance with the business needs of the nation.
    2) Apply the acquired knowledge in solving problems by utilizing advanced programming skills and appropriate tools to develop applications.
    3) Integrate and synthesize business and IT issues, and critically propose potential solutions utilizing scientific approach.
    4) Demonstrate effective communication and  teamwork capabilities in managing and conducting IT projects and research.
    5) Demonstrate professional responsibilities and ethical behaviour within social environment.
    6) Apply acquired skills and knowledge to pursue lifelong learning and career advancement, and to be up to date with emerging information and communication 
        technologies’ advancements.
    7) Combine suitable business and entrepreneurial skills in IT related projects.
    8) Demonstrate professionalism in managing tasks incorporated with motivated attitudes and values that carry ethical considerations.
    9) Practice excellent leadership in managing IT projects and research.


    Master of Science (Information Technology) is offered in three modes:
    • Coursework;
    • Coursework and dissertation; and
    • Research

  • SPECIFIC ADMISSION REQUIREMENT


    Applicants for the Master’s Programme under the UUM College of Arts and Sciences must possess:

    a) A Bachelor’s degree with Honours from University Utara Malaysia or any other institution of higher learning recognized by the University Senate with a
        CGPA at least 2.75; or

    b) A Bachelor’s degree with Honours from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institution of higher learning recognized by the University Senate with a
        CGPA less than 2.75 and relevant working experience; or

    c) Any other equivalent qualification recognized by the University Senate; and

    d) Fulfills the English Language requirement.

    Details

    REQUIREMENTS

    Students are required to:

    • Present and defend the proposed research to a committee;
    • Present progress reports of research work at colloquiums arranged by the Graduate School or College;
    • Attend a viva session to defend the thesis; and
    • Submit a final thesis.
    Students without sufficient research skills and knowledge are required to attend and pass the following courses with at least a B grade before being allowed to defend their proposal (i.e. within the first two semesters of their enrollment):

    • SZRZ6014 Research Methodology;
    • SCLE6014 Academic Writing; and/or
    • Any other course as determined by the supervisor or Academic Committee.
